DIY Cactus Pot [Steal]

Last week I went to my local supermarket and saw a $2 plant sale! I wanted to buy them all, but first I had to make sure I was capable of keeping one alive. I liked a small furry cactus. I took him home and wanted to water him and then noticed that the pot was cracked. I had a plastic container that I recycled from some chopped fruit that I bought. I placed the cactus in the container and then had the idea of buying metallic spray paint, to make it look fancier.

I headed over to Hobby Lobby and bought the paint for only $3 [I had a 40% off coupon].
I wanted to share this great steal with you and also encourage to recycle!

This is what you will need for the DIY Cactus Pot:

  • Recycled container
  • Krylon Foil Metallic Spray Paint (for a metallic finish)
  • Plant
  • Gloves (if you buy a cactus)

The General Public [Eat]

This weekend I had brunch with my lovely friends at The General Public. This is a new restaurant in San Antonio located at the Rim. The General Public describes itself as a sprinted neighborhood restaurant and bar committed to wholesome food and warm hospitality. They also claim to use familiar recipes and the freshest ingredients from personally known farmers.

They have a small menu, which usually means the food is really good. The decorations and the bar give the restaurant a cool and hip vibe.

We all ordered different, and of course I had to try from my friends too.

I ordered the Bacon Burger [egg bun, bacon aioli, lettuce, tomato and cheddar], I know it sounds mainstream, but the ingredients make a difference. The bun was so soft that it melted in my mouth. The meat was so good and of course bacon makes everything even better.  It was delicious!

Lauri ordered the Green Chili Grilled Cheese [ Jalapeño cheddar bread, muenster, American & green chili gravy] yes it tastes as good as it sounds!

Fernanda ordered the Chicken Apple Club [sourdough, mayo, lettuce, avocado, green apple & bacon] this was a tower of flavors! The sweet and salty gave it the perfect taste!

Mayra ordered the Mama’s Tamale Pie [guajillo and ancho chicken chili, toasted cumin, cheddar cheese & cornbread crust] if you are thinking it taste like a typical Mexican tamal, you are very wrong. I can say the flavor was more Tex-Mex, due to the cheddar cheese, and the sweet flavor. It was also very good and had an interesting flavor.

Rosario's [Eat]

This week I had the opportunity of having lunch at Rosario's.  I had been there a long time ago,  for dinner and drinks during first Friday. I remember just moving to San Antonio from Mexico and thinking every single "Mexican" restaurant was Tex-Mex, which I thought I didn't like. I didn't have anything to eat that day only drinks but I perfectly remember the atmosphere being loud and lively. Also, the decorations and the paintings gives it the perfect touch.

After many years I finally tried their food! I found out it is real Mexican Food. The owner Lisa Wong, is half Mexican and half Chinese, but living in San Antonio, I would say she is more Mexican.
I ordered from the lunch special, which is very affordable for the quality. I had "Pollo al Chipotle" [Chicken with Chipotle sauce over a bed of spinach, rice with cilantro, charro beans and of course home made flour and corn tortillas].  It was delicious and I would have loved to have had some margaritas, but I was on my lunch break and had to return to work.  I am definitely going back during dinner and enjoy the live music with some drinks.

Rosario's has two locations, South Town and North. visit rosariossa.com for more information.

Feast [Eat]

Feast is one of my favorite restaurants in San Antonio.  This contemporary restaurant offers exquisite dishes, mainly tapas (small plates). The menu changes seasonally, but there are dishes that remain year round. Feast has a great atmosphere and excellent service. Also, their drinks are to die for.

This weekend me and a group of close friends decided to celebrate life by dinning there. We ordered so many different plates that I can't even remember them all. Here are a few that caught my pallet's attention; Chicharrón con Mole and Queso Fresco, Mussels, Calamari, Mac and Cheese, Beet Salad, among others. To Drink I ordered the Princess and the Queen, I highly recommend both.

We had such a great time drinking and eating a little bit of everything.
