Digital Art & Cool Gear [men + women]

Gilbert Zarate [gzas] wearing his own design {cap + t-shirt}

I love bumping into original artistic things, so today I like to introduce an awesomely talented artist, Gilbert Zarate. He has created a brand called gzas, [Je·sus | ˈjē-zəs] where he transforms his digital art into super cool gear.

This Brownsville native has come a long way, he’s been “doodling” since high school, worked in several important newspapers and now as a Sr. Graphic Designer at an advertising agency in San Antonio, Texas [where some of his art is also displayed]. In his spare time, aside from creating amazing digital art he is working on compiling his pieces to be published as a book.

The great news is that now you can sport his art.  You can choose from a variety of his artwork and convert it in to t-shirts, bags, phone cases, mugs, clocks, laptop skins, skate boards and even rugs (among many other things).  A rich unique look at an inexpensive price.

To buy cool stuff from gzas go to  zazzle.com and society6.com. To learn more about gzas visit, sweetgzas.com

Second Thursday at the McNay

If you happen to like free beer, art, music and street food, Second Thursday is the event for you.

The McNay Art Museum in San Antonio is one of the first modern art museums in the state of Texas, founded in 1954. The Museum used to be the residence of its founder Marion Koogler McNay, who inherited most of her fortune, her important art collection and her Spanish Colonial mansion, which now serves as a Museum.

On Thursday's, the McNay opens its doors for free from 4-9pm for the main gallery exhibition. And every Second Thursday of the Month the Museum hosts a free event on the museum grounds. Every month (except December) the event features a local band/dj, the best food trucks in San Antonio, beer and of course art. Bring your kids, pets and blankets and come enjoy this great event. The event starts at 6pm and ends 9pm sharp, so get there early. Did I mention the beer was free?

Here are some pictures of the event.

Henri Matisse in San Antonio

The San Antonio Museum of Art is having an exhibition featuring Henri Matisse, (French 1869 -1954). The "Life in Color" exhibition was brought from the Baltimore Museum of Art and it features more than eighty art pieces.

Matisse was one of the most important and influential artists of the twentieth century. His paintings are full of color and emotions.

The "Life in Color" exhibition ends September 7, 2014. If you are an art lover, you will enjoy it. Here are some of my favorite pieces.

"Seek the strongest color effect possible... the content is of no importance."
-Henri Matisse

Odalisque

The word odalisque etymological term comes from the French form and originates from the Turkish odalık, that means "chambermaid". By the XVIII century the term odalisque referred to the erotic artistic genre in which an eastern woman lies on her side on display for the spectator.

Here are some of my favorite odalisque paintings by Matisse.

"Looking at art should be like sitting in an easy chair."
- Henri Matisse

"It is not enough to place colors, however beautiful, one beside the other; colors must also react on one another. Otherwise, you have cacophony."
-Henri Mattise
