Brunch with a View [Eat]

Last Sunday some friends and I decided to get together and catch up over brunch. I suggested Rebelle at The St. Anthony’s Hotel. I’ve been there before for dinner, but had no idea they were also serving brunch on Sundays! The place is super chic.  We asked to be seated outside to enjoy our brunch al fresco.

We started by ordering a hibiscus mimosa and some BUTTERMILK BISCUITS [whipped honey butter and green tomato jam]. They were exquisite. I ordered the THE BENEDICTINE [poached eggs over English muffin with sweet and sour tomatoes, prosciutto, fenneldaise sauce and potatoes] they were also very good. My vegetarian friend ordered the IL SCAFATA EN FERNO [farm eggs baked into spicy tomato sauce with spring vegetables, aged buffalo mozzarella and polenta] also very tasty.

If you like Feast, you will love Rebelle. These restaurants are owned by the same chef, and you can never go wrong. Plus, it has the perfect balcony patio for a Sunday brunch during fall weather.

Rebelle is located inside the St. Anthony Hotel 300 East Travis Street, San Antonio, TX, 78205.

Sunday Brunch at Liberty Bar [Eat]

A photo posted by Treast (@treastblog) on

Brunch is the most important meal on Sundays, especially after having a crazy weekend! I usually go to brunch on Sundays with my friends.  This Sunday was not the exception! We decided to have brunch at Liberty Bar. This place is super good, either you want to have brunch, lunch or dinner. They re-purposed an old convent and made it a restaurant. They did a great job in the remodeling. Back to the food, we barely made it to brunch since it ends at 2:00pm.
I ordered the Huevos "New Braunfels” [scrambled eggs mixed w serrano, tomato, green onion & your choice of lamb sausage or pork sausage. served w/ black bean refritos, papas rancheras & house-made toast & jam.] and a cup of coffee, everything was delicious and just what I was craving.

My vegetarian friend ordered the Chilaquiles Norteños [sautéed legumes w/ poblano, onion, & crispy corn tortillas mixed w/ scrambled eggs. served w/ corn tortillas, vegetarian black bean refritos & roasted tomatillo salsa] she gave me some to try and they were delicious.

Liberty Bar is a great option for brunch, they make their food from scratch and the menu changes every now and then.

Cons.

They only have brunch available until 2:00 pm.

The General Public [Eat]

This weekend I had brunch with my lovely friends at The General Public. This is a new restaurant in San Antonio located at the Rim. The General Public describes itself as a sprinted neighborhood restaurant and bar committed to wholesome food and warm hospitality. They also claim to use familiar recipes and the freshest ingredients from personally known farmers.

They have a small menu, which usually means the food is really good. The decorations and the bar give the restaurant a cool and hip vibe.

We all ordered different, and of course I had to try from my friends too.

I ordered the Bacon Burger [egg bun, bacon aioli, lettuce, tomato and cheddar], I know it sounds mainstream, but the ingredients make a difference. The bun was so soft that it melted in my mouth. The meat was so good and of course bacon makes everything even better.  It was delicious!

Lauri ordered the Green Chili Grilled Cheese [ Jalapeño cheddar bread, muenster, American & green chili gravy] yes it tastes as good as it sounds!

Fernanda ordered the Chicken Apple Club [sourdough, mayo, lettuce, avocado, green apple & bacon] this was a tower of flavors! The sweet and salty gave it the perfect taste!

Mayra ordered the Mama’s Tamale Pie [guajillo and ancho chicken chili, toasted cumin, cheddar cheese & cornbread crust] if you are thinking it taste like a typical Mexican tamal, you are very wrong. I can say the flavor was more Tex-Mex, due to the cheddar cheese, and the sweet flavor. It was also very good and had an interesting flavor.

Brunch in Austin [Travel & Eat]

If you are in Austin and planning to have brunch, you should try Annies. This small cafe and bar, located on Congress Avenue, is one of the oldest restaurants downtown Austin. Their commitment remains, local, simple, house-made, scratch-kitchen classics, and they utilize local and/or organic items when they can.

Like any other city trying to park downtown is an odyssey, but strolling down Congress Avenue makes it very enjoyable. There are a lot of nice buildings and cute shops.

Once we got there, the place was packed. We waited about 30 minutes to be sited. It was worth the wait, brunch was amazing! I ordered the Eggs Benedicts; [poached eggs, English muffin, Canadian bacon, Hollandaise, served with potatoes] they were delicious!
I also tried the Buttermilk Griddle Cakes, also another great option, if you love pancakes.

They have freshly baked bread and pastries, the smell of coffee and baked goodies makes you feel like if you were in a French bakery.
This cute and pleasant cafe-bar is located at 319 Congress Avenue in Austin, Texas. For more information visit; AnniesCafeBar.com

Whiskey Cake

Last month Whiskey Cake opened its third restaurant in San Antonio. This restaurant serves tasty farm-to-kitchen food and drinks. The nice thing about their kitchen is that food is made from scratch with ingredients from local and regional farms and markets.  They even have their own spice garden!

If you are looking to have a great meal, good drinks, excellent atmosphere and of course delicious dessert, you should definitely visit Whiskey Cake.  They offer brunch, lunch and dinner. On Wednesdays from 4:00 pm to close they have Girls Wine Wednesday! Ladies get 1/2 price on selected wines. This sounds like a great idea after a stressful day at work! I ordered the Salmon, since it is one of their specialties. It comes with roasted local fall vegetables, green lentils and mustard vinaigrette.  It was delicious!

My friend ordered the Rotisserie "Farm Bird" since it is also one of the specialties. They marinate the chicken for a whole day, so the results are pretty amazing!

We also ordered the Turkey Burger and Fries, which were also delicious!

Don't forget to order Tap Wine!

And of course you can not leave this place with out ordering the iconic Whiskey Cake! This was my favorite part!
