La Siberia "Best Tostadas in Town" [Eat]

This weekend I visited a new Mexican restaurant in town, "La Siberia Taquería". Although, they are extremely famous in Matamoros-Brownsville (my hometown) this is my first time trying them. I even remember my mom talking about how she would go there all the time to eat tostadas with her friends, when she was younger.

I was craving Mexican food so bad and wanted something that tasted like home and this place really hit the spot! They make authentic Mexican food. Plus, their tortillas are handmade and fresh; what else can you ask for?

I ordered their famous “Tostada” [guac, chicken and sour cream] I added pickled onions with habanero and jalapeño. It was super delicious!  To drink I ordered my favorite Mexican drink “Jamaica” (Hibiscus), which is also freshly made there.

My boyfriend ordered the “Tacos Pirata” on corn tortillas [fajita, sausage, bacon, mozzarella cheese, onion, and cilantro in 4 handmade tortillas]. My mouth is watering as we speak. They were delicious too! We were extremely happy! Although we were pretty satisfied, we wanted to try the fresh flour tortillas as well, so we ended up ordering a “Taco Pirata” on Flour! It was AMAZING! (we shared, the tortillas are huge, as you can see)

If you are craving authentic Mexican food, I totally recommend this place. It’s like you never left home! They even have the "Cueritos en Escabeche" which reminded me of my grandma’s house.

La Siberia Taqueria is Located at 6900 San Pedro Avenue, Suite # 113 San Antonio, Texas 78216. To see complete menu visit, lasiberiataqueria.net

Cons.
You will probably need to wear stretchy pants, because you will end up ordering the whole menu.

Street Tacos

Recently, a friend asked me if I had any good restaurant recommendations. I stated a few, but then she asked me if I've ever been to Chela's Tacos, which I said no. She went off talking about how good their street tacos were and how they recently opened a new location by my work. I was very intrigued, and as a taco lover, I couldn't resist it and ended up going the following week. Actually, I visited Chela’s several times before writing this post. I have ordered different things, but today I will focus on my favorite ones; the "Taco de Asada" (beef taco) and the side of Chips and Guac. The Asada has been by far my favorite casserole, but I still have a few more to try. The guac was delicious and fresh. As a good Mexican I like to smother everything with avocado, so I prepared my taco with some guac and purple onions from the salsa bar.

My friend ordered the "Costra de Asada", which is prepared by grilling cheese with beef and placing it on top of a corn tortilla. This is also amazing! (You can share this dish, it's super big). They have a salsa bar, with different condiments and spices. The corn tortillas are handmade and are delicious and big. I was satisfied with one taco and a side of guac.

They also offer breakfast tacos, which I still need to try! See complete menu HERE

Chela's is located at 5231 Broadway Ste. 117, San Antonio, TX 78209 and their Food Truck at the The Block by UTSA, 14530 Roadrunner Way San Antonio, TX 78249 at The Block.

Cons.
One time I ordered the taco combo that comes with beans and rice, the beans did not taste as I was expecting and the rice was meh! I recommend to stick with the tacos.

Steak & Whisky [Eat]

After work I sometimes go for a run to the river extension on Pearl. On my way there I always drive by Josphine St. All the lights and the old building always catch my attention. I would see from the outside people having dinner, it looks so cute and romantic. Finally, I had the opportunity to visit Josephine St. the place is cozy, vintage and the atmosphere is friendly and laid-back. I love the fact that a 500-year-old tree is in the middle of the place, it makes this restaurant even more unique and charming. Also, the bar makes me think I am back in 1905.

I ordered the 7 oz Peppered Bacon Wrapped Filet [served with cilantro lime sauce or lime herb butter and course cracked pepper on top] as a side I ordered the Green Beans, which are one of the best green beans I’ve ever had (aside from the ones my aunt Betsy cooks). My boyfriend ordered the El Rey Burger [seasoned, juicy beef dripping with cheddar and topped with avocado slices, pickled jalapeños, mayo and house made ranchero sauce - caramelized tomato, onion, garlic and fresh jalapeños] and a side of onion rings. Those onion rings are too good they put them in every dish, I think. If you order something and there are no onion rings, make sure to order of side of them! They are delicious!

Finally, the best part of all, dessert! I was so full, but it was my birthday so, we ordered the Peach Cobbler with ice cream. It is the BEST Peach Cobbler I have had in my entire life (31 years to be exact.)

It is always good to know they have a Spurs Bus, that takes you to the games if you have dinner with them that day! That is so cool!

Cons.
You might end up with a food coma, make sure to have a designated driver.

Sushi for Lunch [Eat]

There is a Japanese place in the same business center where I work. I always forget how good this place is. Today, I had a lot of meeting and did not feel like driving somewhere to get food. I decided to eat at Koi Kawa Japanese Restaurant & Sushi.
They have daily lunch specials and their sushi is to die for!

For starters, I ordered the Sara Special Sushi Roll [I do not know what it has, but trust me it’s amazing]. As a main dish I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki lunch special for only $6 [bento box with grilled chicken, steamed rice, 2 vegetable dumplings, green beans with peanut sauce, cabbage salad and miso soup.] As you can see in the picture it was delicious and nutritious.

Cons.
They only have their lunch specials available Monday-Friday, from 11:00-3:00 pm.  Also, you will want to order more sushi after tasting the first bite!

Koi Kawa Japanese Restaurant & Sushi is located at 4051 Broadway San Antonio TX 78209.

Sunday Brunch at Liberty Bar [Eat]

A photo posted by Treast (@treastblog) on

Brunch is the most important meal on Sundays, especially after having a crazy weekend! I usually go to brunch on Sundays with my friends.  This Sunday was not the exception! We decided to have brunch at Liberty Bar. This place is super good, either you want to have brunch, lunch or dinner. They re-purposed an old convent and made it a restaurant. They did a great job in the remodeling. Back to the food, we barely made it to brunch since it ends at 2:00pm.
I ordered the Huevos "New Braunfels” [scrambled eggs mixed w serrano, tomato, green onion & your choice of lamb sausage or pork sausage. served w/ black bean refritos, papas rancheras & house-made toast & jam.] and a cup of coffee, everything was delicious and just what I was craving.

My vegetarian friend ordered the Chilaquiles Norteños [sautéed legumes w/ poblano, onion, & crispy corn tortillas mixed w/ scrambled eggs. served w/ corn tortillas, vegetarian black bean refritos & roasted tomatillo salsa] she gave me some to try and they were delicious.

Liberty Bar is a great option for brunch, they make their food from scratch and the menu changes every now and then.

Cons.

They only have brunch available until 2:00 pm.

Flair Mexican Street Food [Eat]

Today I had lunch at Flair, a Mexican Street Food restaurant. They define themselves as fresh, local, farm to table-scratch kitchen. The place has a nice and modern atmosphere. They have a small menu for lunch, which I loved because they basically only offer tacos!
For starters I order the chips and queso. It was super good! It was topped with green chili pork. As you may see in the picture we finished it quickly.

They have a lunch special for $9.00, they offer, 2 tacos, 1 side and a drink.
I ordered the Carnitas Taco [pork carnitas, guacamole, pickled red onions, queso fresco] and the Carne Asada Taco [grilled beef steak, caramelized onions, sliced avocado, queso fresco] with a side of Mexican Street Corn. I really enjoyed them!
They also have a very nice bar and offer happy hour, which I definitely want to try.

Cons:
As a true Mexican I need my salsa and limes (no matter what) when I eat tacos. They didn’t have any salsa in the table nor they brought any. I didn’t order either, but that was the only thing I didn’t like.

Pasha Mediterranean Food [Eat]

One of my favorite Mediterranean restaurant in San Antonio is definitely Pasha. The food is so good that I could eat it for two days in a row, or more. My brother introduced me to this place a long time ago, when he worked near the area and his friends from the Middle East highly recommend it. Every since I visit Pasha probably once a month!

Pasha Mediterranean Grill strives to bring a unique and healthy alternative that does not disappoint.

I was there this weekend with my boyfriend and thought might as well share my review with everyone.

For starters we ordered the Falafel Vegetable Patties [Deep fried patties made with ground fava beans, cracked wheat & chickpeas. Served with tomato, pickled cucumbers, turnips & tahini sauce.]

As entree I ordered my favorite dish, the Chicken Shawarma Plate [A generous serving of marinated chicken breast slowly roasted on a vertical pit & thinly sliced. Served with garlic aioli, hummus & Greek salad].

My boyfriend ordered the Gyro Kabob Plate [Two (2) skewers of lean ground beef & lamb cooked over an open flame. Served with hummus, Greek salad & tzatziki sauceand of course both served with the delicious, warm, handmade naan [flat bread].

For those vegetarians out there this is an excellent restaurant that has a vast variety for you. It is always good to know that this restaurant is BYOB or wine.

Malinalli Bakery & Bistro [Eat]

This weekend one of my friends invited me to try some original Mexican "Tortas Ahogadas" which means in English "drowned sandwich." She kept telling how amazing they were so I had to try them for myself.
This cute bakery and bistro has an array of tortas, from Ahogadas with pork to Portobello (for those vegetarians). I got there and I didn't even look at the menu, since I was very determined to have the Torta Ahogada [Golden pork carnitas, black beans spread, escabeche radish, avocado and the tomato chile broth]. The torta was amazing, all the ingredients in between and then dipping it in the tomato-chile broth was an explosion of flavors in my mouth! They also have aguas frescas, caldos and many other great food! Here is the menu so you can see for yourself: Malinalli Menu

We also had a delicious short cake with raspberry. I was looking at the menu right now and I am definitely going back to try many other things!

My favorite thing is that they bake their own bread and pastries! And my least favorite is that they close at 2:00 pm everyday!

Malinalli is located at 2211 NW Military Hwy #127A, San Antonio, TX 78213
