Whiskey Cake

Last month Whiskey Cake opened its third restaurant in San Antonio. This restaurant serves tasty farm-to-kitchen food and drinks. The nice thing about their kitchen is that food is made from scratch with ingredients from local and regional farms and markets.  They even have their own spice garden!

If you are looking to have a great meal, good drinks, excellent atmosphere and of course delicious dessert, you should definitely visit Whiskey Cake.  They offer brunch, lunch and dinner. On Wednesdays from 4:00 pm to close they have Girls Wine Wednesday! Ladies get 1/2 price on selected wines. This sounds like a great idea after a stressful day at work! To see more specials go to whiskeycakesa.com/whats-going-on

I ordered the Salmon, since it is one of their specialties. It comes with roasted local fall vegetables, green lentils and mustard vinaigrette.  It was delicious!

My friend ordered the Rotisserie "Farm Bird" since it is also one of the specialties. They marinate the chicken for a whole day, so the results are pretty amazing!

We also ordered the Turkey Burger and Fries, which were also delicious!

Don't forget to order Tap Wine!

And of course you can not leave this place with out ordering the iconic Whiskey Cake! This was my favorite part!

Pho! The Real Deal

Winter has arrived and so has my craving for steaming hot bowls of soup. If your sentiment is as mine, here’s a simple appeasement, pho, specifically from Pho Hong Phat. Pho is Vietnamese for noodle soup. Although far from average tasting, it consists of a delicious broth, rice noodles, herbs, and meat. The combination of these ingredients results in an exquisitely tasty bowl of not so traditional “noodle soup”. My words cannot express the unique flavor, so why not let your taste buds do the enlightening.

I usually order the chicken pho and add all of the following, that are always provided, but optional to use: bean sprouts, basil, cilantro, jalapeños, extra lime, pho sauce and Sriracha. If you like beef order the brisket or flank pho and for you vegetarians and veggie-lovers, vegetable or tofu pho. While you wait, order the chicken spring rolls as an appetizer, they are superb!

PHO HONG PHAT is located at 6180 Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, TX 78238 and if you want to order to go call 210 523-288. Also, it is important to mention that you can BYOB.

Barraca Paella & Tapas Bar

Sangria, tapas, paella, churros, great service, awesome atmosphere... I could continue going on of what I liked about Barraca, but it will be better if you experience it on your own!

This week I wanted to try something new, different and nice. I remembered a friend of mine mentioning going to this place and loving it, so I decided to try it too.

They have a small menu, which I love and great wine and beer selection. I started with Mango Sangria and it was delicious.

If you want to try several dishes order tapas (small plates). I recommend the Mejollones, the Empanadas and Queso Frito they are to die for! Also you can not leave without trying the famous Churros. Everything was excellent, I wish I could have kept eating more and try the whole menu. I will definitely go back to try the rest.

On Saturdays they feature Flamenco Nights from 8-10pm. So if you want to have a great time and treat your palate, I recommend Barraca Paella & Tapas Bar. They also have Happy Hour -Tuesday to Saturday from 4pm -7pm.

Barraca is located at 1420 S Alamo St Suite 101 in San Antonio (Blue Star Complex). It is locally owned and managed.

Luxury Haute Cuisine

Several weeks ago my boyfriend and I decided to go biking downtown San Antonio. After all the biking we were hungry and thirsty, so we decided to stop for lunch at Luxury Haute Cuisine.

The Luxury is a very unique restaurant which is located in the Riverwalk extention. This restaurant is made out of shipping containers that serve as a kitchen, bar and a restroom and it has a big patio with picnic tables.

If you are looking to have a relaxed time, eat good food, have some drinks and bring your dog along, this is the place for you.

After having a hard time choosing what to eat, (since everything sounded delicious) we ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich, the Mexican Dog, an order of french fries and two beers. If you like onions, tryout the french fries with the special sauce for $1 more, you will not regret it! I wanted to tryout the Fried Chicken since it looked really good, but I could not stop eating my Mexican Dog. It had guacamole, sausage, bacon, ham, cilantro, onions and a special sauce. Oh my God my mouth is watering!

After ordering the food, instead of a call out number or name, they gave us a toy. Which I find really cool and unique.

I totally recommend this restaurant since I recently added it to my list of favorites.

If you want to bike downtown and do not own a bike, this venue offers the B-cycle, which is a bike sharing/renting system provided by the City of San Antonio. For more information visit: https://sanantonio.bcycle.com/home.aspx

After having lunch we went biking Downtown and South town. Here are some of the pictures.
